Chamber publishes survey results

The chamber strives to ensure its work is relevant to the business community. To that end, the government affairs and the economic developments committees recently developed a survey to learn what issues are viewed as being most impactful to the growth and sustainability of your business. The survey was sent to the members of the Delaware, Sunbury/Big Walnut and Powell chambers. One hundred-three responses were received. The committees will use the survey results to focus their efforts on your behalf

Respondents were asked to rate the impact of 16 areas of interest.  No big surprise that those issues rated “Very Critical” were most often the economic climate in Ohio, the State’s budget and local economic development.
Most environmental issues did not seem to have a major impact on local business.  The results, however, showed interest in support for alternative forms of energy and incentives for sustainable practices.
Broadband was far and away the mot critical infrastructure issue facing those who responded. Traffic congestion rated a higher concern than the roads that traffic is driving on.
The questions relating to education inspired strong opinions about funding and  the quality of education. Business is also concerned with the alignment of their needs to education.
Those who responded expressed frustration with ease of entry at all levels.
When asked an open-ended question soliciting programs, policies or legislation that posed an impediment to economic growth, the common theme was less government intervention and lower taxes.
The traffic congestion and the availability of getting people to work via public transportation solicited comments.
Job growth, business attraction and retention, the development of a strategic plan for the county, health care, and the State’s budget were among respondents’ suggestions for the chamber’s advocacy focus in the near future.

Thank you to all who responded to our survey. It’s with your input that we shape our work on your behalf.

Chamber takes position on Sawmill Parkway Extention Project

At its August meeting, the chamber board approved the Economic Development Committee’s request that the chamber take an official position on encouraging the City and County to move forward with the long-awaited Sawmill Parkway extension project. The EDC spent many months gathering information and data about the project, talking with groups on both sides of the project. The committee looked at projected revenue numbers and overall transportation issues from both an economic development and quality of life perspective. The following is the Economic Development Committee’s position proposed to and approved by the board:

“Our goal is to support development of a business climate that retains and expands existing business while encouraging new business in the Delaware area.
It is the committee’s position that the advancement of the proposed Sawmill Parkway Extension within Delaware City and Delaware County will support our goal of an improved business climate in the area.
